Johannes Christiaan Karel Klinkenberg (1852-1924)

A view on Delft with the spire of the Nieuwe Kerk and the Groenmolen

signed lower right

oil on canvas, 39,5x47 cm

Provenance: Private collection United States.

Literature: Compare: W. Laanstra, 'Johannes Christiaan Karel Klinkenberg (1852-1924), "de meester van het zonnige stadsgezicht"', Laren 2000, page 95, cat.no. O/38/5 (false title, slightly different composition).

The mill depicted in this work is most probably the ‘Groenmolen’, which was demolished in 1928. For the composition of this painting the mill was slightly shifted: it should stand between the two towers. The depicted drawbridge over the Kolk is nowadays replaced by a stone bridge.
