A low bronze 'Fu' dish

Song Dynasty (960 - 1279) or later, China

The rectangular dish with sloping sides, the outside with Archaic style relief and handles. The inside with ancient-form Chinese characters. Often fu vessels had a lid in mirror-design to the base, the design of these going back to the Western Zhou period (ca. 9th century B.C.).
