Kangxi period, ca. 1700, China

Both pots with shell shaped tab handles and decorated with flowering peonies. The lower half against a white background with small birds on branches, the upper half against a black background with large flying phoenixes. The unglazed bases are not marked.

H 13.5 cm, D 12 cm

Provenance: Property of a deceased collector. Christie's Amsterdam, May 17th 1995, lot 102.

One with a star crack in the lower body (side). The other with a chip and small hairline in the top rim. No restoration.
