A small chicken headed ewer

Probably Song dynasty, 960-1279, China

Of squat globular form, covered in a pale greenish gray glaze. With two small loop handles and on one side a small chicken head and its tail on the other side, with an impressed decorative band.

H 10.2 cm, D 11 cm

Ex Sotheby's Philips collection, lot 168 (The Frits Philips Collection. 04 December 2006)

Repair to the top rim and wear of the glaze. No other damage or restoration.
