The sitter of this portrait is Walraad van Steenhuys (1660-1722), lord of Heumen, Malden and Oploo and 'amptman' in Grave and Cuyck. In 1687 he married to Lucretia van der Noot (1660-1739).

The painting is framed in an impressive 18th century hand carved giltwood frame, bearing a coat of arms and three dragons.
