A Dutch burr-walnut longcase clock

Late 19th century

The burr-walnut veneered case with fruitwood marquetry and carved foliate ornaments, on ball and claw feet, the hood with openwork decoration, centred by a carved scallop shell and crowned by three giltwood Commedia dell'arte figures, the partly silvered dial with Roman numerals, indicating the day of the week, the month, the date and the lunar phase, signed 'Jacob Teyler Amsteldam', above a view of a seaside town with moving ships, the eight-day mechanism with anchor escapement, striking on two bells, on the half hour and the whole hour in full.
