A French carved and polychrome painted stone figure of the Virgin and Child

Second half 14th century, Lorraine

Representing the crowned Virgin, wearing a blue cloak with a red chemise below, with five cut-outs in her chest for cabochon-shaped jewels, two of which are filled with pieces of rock-crystal, holding a flowering branch in her right hand, the Christ child seated on her left arm and holding a dove, retaining most of its original polychromy.
