A large brown glaze Swatow dish with slip decoration

Early 17th century, China

A splendid Zhangzhou ware dish, finely decorated with white slip dragons on a brown glaze ground.

D 40,9 cm

A similar dish is held in the collection of Princessehof National Museum of ceramics in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, and illustrated on pages 140/141 of 'Ming, Porcelain for a globalized trade' by Eva Ströber, 2013 (Arnoldsche Art Publishers)

Very good condition: no chips, no cracks or hairlines and no restoration. Normal wear from age and use. Typical glaze flaws and imperfections.
