It's Springtime

signed and numbered in black pen 'man Ray 8/10' and with printed title and date 1961-1971 (on a label attached to the base)

metal springs on a black painted wooden base, H 28 cm
Executed in 1971 in an edition of ten plus three artist proofs after the original object from 1958 (Morton G. Neumann Family Collection) and two variants It’s Springtime II and III made in 1961. This readymade work is based on wordplay with a clear erotic meaning: ‘spring’ in the sense of source, a coiled or mesh bed frame, coil, and the season.
