A Dutch burr-walnut longcase clock

Johan Pieter Kroese, Amsterdam, second quarter 18th century

The burr-walnut veneered case partly ebonised, on bun feet, the hood with openwork decoration, red fabric and giltwood vase finials, the partly silvered brass dial with Roman numerals, indicating the day of the week, date, lunar phase, and tides, including a separate seconds hand, with alarm disk but lacking alarm mechanism, with a moving figure of Time in the dome, the eight-day mechanism with anchor escapement, striking on two bells, on the half hour and the whole hour in full.
