A Höchst porcelain coffee and tea service

18th century, Germany

A very fine extensive porcelain tea and coffee service, made by Höchst (also spelled Hoechst). Marked with the underglaze blue wheel mark and decorated with rural scenes and small trompe l'oeil flies and bugs. The finials in the form of fruit. The lid on the teapot and tea canister as well as the creamer are contemporary replacements.

Coffee pot H ca 25,5 cm, Saucers D 13,4 cm, Cups D 7,5 cm, H 4,4 cm

The sugar bowl with a hairline and ground down foot rim. One saucer and one cup with a chip to the standing rim. A few cups with brown spots on the inside (manufacturing flaw). The teapot and tea canister with replacement lids (damages to both lids). The creamer with repaired handle and missing the lid, the creamer is a replacement and not original to the set. Small chips to the corners edges of the tea canister. The larger coffee pot with small chips to the foot rim and the twig in the finial on the lid is missing. The smaller coffee pot with a piece of rough porcelain stuck to the side (see last photo). Apart from that this set is in very good condition, minimal wear of the gilding.
