Complete set of the third enlarged edition (comprising ca. 5.300 text-pages incl. extensive indexes) of a Dutch translation by Simon de Vries (1624-1708) of a history of the world (incl. references to the Dutch East & West India Companies) by the German theologian Johann Ludwig Gottfried (ca. 1584-1633) covering the period from the Creation to 1576 (vols. I-II) and continued by the translator Simon de Vries covering the period from 1576 to 1698 (vols. III-IV) illustrated with engravings by the Dutch print-makers Jan Luyken (1649-1712) & his son Casper Luyken (1672-1708). All vols. ex bibliotheca C.F.C.G. Boissevain (with his book-plate mounted on upper paste-down). ¶ With defects (spines partly dam./ rebacked, end-papers renewed, several leaves of vol. I & III partly torn and/or strengthened with tape in outer margins, lower part of 1 full-p. engraving in vol. III torn off (with loss of 3 portraits), lower blank margin of a few text-leaves partly cropped, lower blank corner of 2 text-leaves torn off, sl. soiled/ marg. waterstained (esp. in vol. IV), partly foxed/ browned), but nevertheless an acceptable set (text is complete).
