Handcol. etched & engraved bird’s-eye view with cartouche (incorporating 6 putti holding i.a. a coat-of-arms) & legend (listing 42 items in lower blank margin) by “J. ab Avelen [=J.J. van den Aveele]”. Published by “Nicolaus Visscher” (Amsterdam, after 1691). Ca. 39 x 47,5 cm. Behind black-lacquer passepartout & framed (behind glass).

¶ Van der Haer p. 240. Hunt/ De Jong (“The Anglo-Dutch garden in the age of William and Mary”) pp. 165-172. Very rare first edition of a beautiful panoramic view of the gardens of the estate “Sorghvliet” in The Hague depicting i.a. the “Catshuis” (nowadays the official residence of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands) & the “Scheveningse Zee Straat” (incorporating a small view of Scheveningen in the background). A second edition was published by J. Covens & C. Mortier (Amsterdam, ca. 1730). ¶ Vertical fold in the middle (as publ.). Sl. creased in lower left corner, partly foxed/ browned, but nevertheless in an acceptable condition (not examined out frame).
