Collection of 115 18th-cent. engravings (numbered “1-115” in the plate of which 2 with German caption (no. 55-56) and 113 with French caption & 4-line French verse) depicting various military costumes, all in a fine CONTEMPORARY HAND-COLOURING & partly “gommées”. All published by Martin Engelbrecht (Augsburg, ca. 1745). All ca. 30 x 19 cm. (image incl. caption) & ca. 39 x 23 cm. (leaf). Bound into a late 20th-cent. red half-rexine binding.

¶ Not in Lipperheide or Colas. Extremely rare series of engravings (only 3 copies in WorldCat) published in Augsburg by the German print-maker Martin Engelbrecht (1684-1756) executed in a splendid 18th-cent. hand-colouring depicting various costumes of mainly military men (i.a. Hussars, Pandurs & Tolpatches from Austria (incl. a portrait of the commander Baron Franz von der Trenck, 1711-1749), Croatia, Dalmatia, Hungary, Karlstadt, Prussia, Scotland & Slavonia) who were active during the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748) & the Silesian Wars (1740-1745). A complete set consists of an engraved title & 3 series of prints (comprising 65 engravings in part I & 10 engravings in part II depicting portraits of emperors, kings & military commanders). The number of engravings in our separate part III varies in all copies we have traced (resp. 132, 141 & 150 plates), so at least 17 more engravings were published. ¶ A few minor imperfections (plate no. 70 & 115 with small crease in upper part, occ. sl. soiled/ waterstained in outer blank margin, occ. sl. foxed/ browned), but nevertheless all engravings in very good condition.
