[DRAWING] – PECHAM, G. (Georg) (ca. 1568-1604) (circle of). (Ecce Homo).

DRAWING in black ink & grey wash on handmade paper with unidentified watermark (possibly the letters “ANA”). Ca. 15 x 16,5 cm. (leaf). Tipped onto a paper mount & behind passepartout.

¶ Provenance: acquired by the present owner in 1975 in London at the “Chiltern Art Gallery”. Late 16th-/ early 17th-cent. drawing possibly by (or from the circle of) the German artist Georg Pecham (ca. 1568-1604) depicting the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate presenting Jesus Christ to the Jewish people saying the famous Latin words “Ecce Homo” (“Behold the Man”). – Occ. sl. soiled/ creased (in outer margins), but nevertheless in good condition.
