Accompanied by the album in a soft cover binding: 'Nederlands Indië zoals het was. Menno's Indische penkrabbels', with 47 pages of illustrations; self-published by Menno van Meeteren Brouwer, Rijswijk Z.-H., Juli 1956. The illustrator, political cartoonist, painter and draftsman Menno Simon Jacobus van Meeteren Brouwer (Zwolle 1882 - Rijswijk 1974) was in the Dutch East Indies - Sumatra, Java and Bali - between 1910 and 1922. He made illustrations for an impressive amount of books on Indonesia.

In the introduction of this album he writes: "I hope that my old friends and acquaintances of those days, to whom I dedicate this edition, may be reminded by these moments of their good 'Indischen tijd', the days 'as they were'.
