A Dutch engraved goblet with cover

18th century, Netherlands

Engraved with the text "T welvaren van de Lijnbaan de Snoek" which translates as "To the succes of Ropewalk the Pike", De Snoek (the Pike) was the name of a ropemaking factory that operated in Amsterdam and is mentioned in the city archives to have been active in the late 17th century and most of the 18th century. This glass has a faceted stem and is also faceted on the bowl with gothic style arches. The engraving shows three men winding rope as it comes out of the factory. The other side shows a large pike (fish) in water. The cover is faceted and engraved and has a red glass enclosure in the twisted knob.

H 31 cm (to top of lid), or 22.3 cm high without lid and D 9.7 cm

Tiny sliver chip on top edge of glass. No other damage and no restoration.
