Blaeu [..], MDCXCIX[=1699]" engraved in the plate), woodcut printer’s device (of P. & J. Blaeu) on title, 7 double-p. engraved views (of which 1 folding) by Bastiaen Stopendael, 1 engraved portrait (of Michiel de Ruyter) & 1 engraved plate (dep. De Ruyter's tomb). Small folio (ca. 32 x 20,5 cm.), contemp. calf, gilt ribbed spine with black mor. letterpiece.

Third edition (printed by Pieter & Joan Blaeu) of the standard biography of Michiel de Ruyter (1607-1676) by the Dutch historian Gerard Brandt (1626-1685) illustrated with engravings by the Dutch print-maker Bastiaen Stopendael (1637-1693) depicting i.a. naval battles (near Algiers, Chatham, Den Helder, Nyborg, Plymouth & Sicily) and the funeral-procession of De Ruyter in 1676 in Amsterdam. Ex bibliotheca J.A. Hooykaas with his book-plate mounted on upper paste-down. – With defects (spine-ends partly dam./ chipped, both joints splitting, small portion of lower blank corner of leaf Ee3 torn off, occ. sl. (water-)stained in outer blank margins, occ. sl. foxed/ browned), but nevertheless in a good interior condition.
