Stopendaal (monogrammed “D.S.” in the plate) & num. woodcut text-ills. 4to (ca. 26 x 17,5 cm.), later half-vellum, ribbed spine with mor. letterpiece.

¶ Catalogus NHSM II, p. 1000. Claes/ Bakema 4515. Rare first edition (only 3 copies in NCC) of a comprehensive dictionary on ships & ship-building by the French minister Nicolas Aubin (born ca. 1655) illustrated with engravings by i.a. the Dutch print-maker Daniël Stopendaal (1672-1726) depicting various sailing vessels (with Dutch & French caption), i.a. “Boeyer”, “Brander”, “Fluit Schip”, “Haring Buys”, “Heere Jacht”, “Hoecker”, “Kaagh”, “Smal-Schip” & “Spaansche Berck”. – A few minor imperfections (1 fold. engraving sl. torn on fold, small portion of lower blank margin of 1 text-leaf (pp. 385-386) torn off, several text-leaves at the end sl. waterstained in lower blank margin, sl. foxed/ browned throughout), but nevertheless in good condition (printed with wide margins).
