Col. woodcut. Titled in pencil (in lower blank margin). Signed “Elizabeth Keith” in red crayon (in lower right part). Monogrammed “E.K.” & dated “1924” in the block (in lower right corner). Ca. 21,5 x 33,5 cm. Behind passepartout.

¶ Provenance: The property of the descendants of Anton Philips (1874-1951). Very rare woodcut by the Scottish female artist Elizabeth Keith depicting the “moro vinta” (a double outrigger sailing canoe from the southern Philippines) near the island Jolo in the Sulu Archipelago. Keith’s graphic work was strongly influenced by Japanese woodblock prints (known as “Shin-hanga”) which were published by Shozaburo Watanabe (1885-1962). – Sl. foxed/ browned in outer blank margins (due to off-setting), but nevertheless in good condition.
