A Flemish ebony cabinet, inset with painted panels

Ca. 1630-40, Antwerp School

The hinged and moulded rectangular top enclosing a compartment inset with a mirror flanked by depictions of Saint Peter and Saint John the Baptist, above two doors inset with painted panels depicting the Baptism of Jesus and the Parable of the Sower, enclosing an interior fitted with ten drawers inset with depictions of (clockwise, starting from top center) the Samaritan woman at the well, the Good Shepherd, Noli me tangere, Healing the blind near Jericho, the Temptation of Christ, the Flight into Egypt, the Good Samaritan, Calling of the disciples, the Road to Emmaus, and Healing a bleeding woman, surrounding a central panel door depicting the Return of the Holy Family from Egypt, opening to reveal an architectural interior with ivory and ebony parquetry floor and mirrored sides, above a frieze drawer, on a later ebonised stand with twisted legs joined by an X-shaped stretcher.
