With engraved title (by A. van Buysen), 2 woodcut printer’s devices, 1 fold. double-p. engraving (“Prophetien. Vervullingen”, ca. 35,5 x 45,5 cm.) dep. a scene with Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden with in the middle a hemisphere, 4 fold. double-p. engraved maps & 1 fold. double-p. engraving (“Jerusalem en syn Tempel”, ca. 35,5 x 45,5 cm.) dep. a bird’s-eye view of Jerusalem. Folio (ca. 36,5 x 23,5 cm.), 18th-cent. blindst. panelled calf over wooden boards with large blindst. ornament central on both covers, both covers with 4 brass cornerpieces and 2 brass clasps & catches, ribbed spine.

¶ Poortman I, p. 247. Poortman/ Augusteijn (Kaarten in Bijbels) pp. 216-223. Eighteenth century edition of the famous “Keur-Bijbel” illustrated with 6 engravings (known as “pious maps”) of which 2 are attributed to the Dutch print-maker Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708) & 4 maps to the Dutch engraver Johannes van den Aveele (ca. 1655-1727). Warranted by the Dutch lawyer Jeronimus Karsseboom. ¶ With defects (spine expertly rebacked, both paste-downs & free end-papers renewed, a few engravings sl. torn on folds, small portion of lower blank margin of text-leaf “Hhh2” (in the Old Testament) torn off, waterstained (throughout) in outer (blank) margins, partly foxed/ browned), but nevertheless an impressive binding in an acceptable condition.
