With engraved title, 2 identical woodcut printer’s devices, 1 fold. double-p. engraved WORLD-MAP in double hemispheres (“Orbis Terrarum Tabula [..]”, ca. 30,5 x 47 cm.) after N. Visscher, 4 fold. double-p. engraved maps (by A. van den Broeck after N. Visscher) & 1 fold. double-p. engraved bird’s-eye plan of Jerusalem (after C.J. Visscher). Folio (ca. 42 x 25 cm.), late 17th-cent. blindst. panelled leather over wooden boards (with large blindst. ornament central on both covers), both covers with 4 brass cornerpieces and 2 brass clasps & catches, ribbed spine.

¶ Poortman I, p. 234. Poortman/ Augusteijn (Kaarten in Bijbels) pp. 179-185. Seventeenth century edition of the famous “Ravesteyn-Bible” published by the heirs of the Dutch printer Paulus Aertsz van Ravesteyn (ca. 1586-1655) illustrated with maps engraved by Abraham van den Broeck (1617-1688) after Nicolaes Visscher (1618-1679). The world-map depicting parts of Western Australia (“T’Landt Van De Eendracht”) & Tasmania (“A. van Diemens Landt”) as discovered by Abel Tasman (1603-1659) in 1642 & 1644. Warranted by the Dutch notary Jan Stoffelsz van Swoll. ¶ With defects (spine-ends expertly rebacked (incl. lower margin of both covers), binding sl. rubbed/ worn, most engravings partly torn/ frayed in outer (blank) margins (partly strengthened with paper and/or tape on verso), small portion of lower blank corner of text-leaf “Oovii” (in the Old Testament) torn off, partly waterstained (throughout) in outer blank margins), but nevertheless an impressive binding in an acceptable condition.
