Small folio (ca. 31 x 20 cm.), late 16th-cent. blindstamped panelled calf over wooden boards, both covers with 2 brass catches, ribbed spine.

¶ Ad 1-4: Haitsma Mulier/ Van der Lem 20a & 483. De Wind pp. 112-113 & 268-269. Moes/ Burger III, pp. 249-253. Cf. Adams A2253 & De Buck 1916 (both listing the first edition published in 1517). Scarce re-edition with the rare additional 4th part (published separately in 1597) of a famous 16th-cent. Dutch chronicle (also known as “Divisiekroniek”) by the Dutch humanist Cornelius Gerardi Aurelius (=Cornelis Geritsz., ca. 1460-1531) continued & enlarged by the Dutch author Ellert de Veer (ca. 1540-1599) dealing with Dutch history in the period until 1517 (part 1), 1516-1595 (part 2), 1566-1595 (part 3) & 1591-1597 (part 4). “De invloed, dien de ‘Divisie-kroniek’ geoefend heeft, is moeilijk te overschatten. Zij vatte a.h.w. nog eenmaal al het oude weten omtrent het vaderlandsch verleden samen [..]” (Jan Romein, “Geschiedenis van de Noord-Nederlandsche geschiedschrijving in de Middeleeuwen”, p. 211). ¶ Partly with erratic pagination, but all texts are complete. A few small defects (2 brass clasps missing, spine-ends dam./ chipped, calf on lower part of both covers partly worn away, small portion of lower blank corner of 2 text-leaves torn off (leaf “kv” in part 2 & leaf “Diiij” in part 3), upper corner of 1 blank leaf (between part 2 & part 3) torn off, a few text-lines blackened by ink (on verso title-leaf & leaf Jvii in part 1), occ. sl. waterstained in upper margin, sl. foxed/ browned), but nevertheless an attractive binding in an acceptable condition.
