Jaime Antonio Colson (1901-1975)

Jaime Colson is one of the most important painters from the Dominican Republic of the twentieth century. He studied Fine Arts in Barcelona and Madrid from 1918 to 1923 and received lessons from Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida (1863-1923). He was befriended with Salvador Dali (1904-1989) and later on in Paris he met Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) and George Braque (1882-1963). During 1934 through 1938 he worked in Mexico and became friends with Diego Rivera (1886-1957) and Wifredo Lam (1902-1982). From 1939 he lived and worked in France, Spain and returned to the Dominican Republic in 1950 where he died in 1975.
