[CELESTIAL GLOBE] – “URANOGRAPHIA Coelum omne hic Complectens, Illa pro ut aucta, ad annum 1750, [..]”.

Collection of 12 handcol. engraved gores (divided into 24 parts, all ca. 19 x 8 cm.) & 2 polar calottes (divided into 4 parts, ca. 5 x 11 cm.) forming together a celestial table globe. Publ. by G. & L. Valk (Amsterdam, ca. 1750). All engravings mounted onto a paper mount behind passepartout & luxuriously framed (behind glass).

¶ Cf. Van der Krogt (Globi Neerlandici) pp. 313-323. Exceptional collection of 18th-cent. engraved gores & calottes printed in their ORIGINAL FORM meant for a celestial table globe published by the Dutch cartographers Gerhard Valck (1652-1726) & Leonhard Valck (1675-1746). The beautiful engravings depict various constellations (all stars HEIGHTENED WITH GOLD) in the shape of mythological figures & animals (incl. the 12 signs of the Zodiac) based on the celestial atlas “Firmamentum Sobiescianum sive Uranographia [..]” (Gdansk, 1687) by the Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611-1687). – With defects (for the greater part expertly restored). Sold as a collection of prints (with all faults).
