¶ Nissen (ZBI) 3467. Hagen II, p. 84. Landwehr (Col. Plates) 161. First & only Dutch edition of one of the most beautiful 18th-cent. works on insects by the German entomologist August Johann Rösel von Rosenhof (1705-1759), but as often without the very rare supplementary vol. by C.F.C. Kleemann (publ. after 1787). The original German edition "Der monatlich herausgegebenen Insecten-Belustigung" was publ. in Nuremberg between 1746-1761. According to Landwehr the plates were “carefully coloured by hand by Kleemann and his wife Katharina Barbara Roesel von Rosenhof”. Vol. 4(II) contains the general index compiled by Adam Abrahamsz van Moerbeek. ¶ One engraving (“Tab. A. III”) in vol. 2(I) bound in a wrong order (between pp. 164-165 instead of pp. 18-19). A few small imperfections (a few text-leaves in vol. 1(II) & 4(I) sl. waterstained/ browned in outer blank margin, 2 preliminary text-leaves of vol. 4(II) sl. marg. waterstained (of which 1 leaf partly strengthened with paper on verso), final free end-paper & lower paste-down of vol. 3(II) browned due to off-setting of a newspaper), but nevertheless a complete set in an outstanding fine and fresh condition (printed with ample margins).
