[ROTTERDAM] – “ROTTERDAM”.

Handcol. engr. panoramic bird’s-eye view (printed on 2 leaves) with cartouche, coat-of-arms & 2 legends (German text in upper right corner, Dutch & Latin text below). Publ. by G.B. Probst (Augsburg, after 1740). Ca. 35 x 95 cm. Behind passepartout & framed (behind glass).

¶ Very rare issue (probably in a 18th-cent. hand-colouring) of an impressive large-sized 18th-cent. profile view of Rotterdam seen from the river Maas. The German family of print-makers Probst (i.a. Georg Balthasar Probst I (1673-1748) and his son Georg Balthasar Probst II (1732-1801)) published a series of panoramic views of various European cities based on designs by the German artist Friedrich Bernhard Werner (1690-1776). Our issue differs from the engr. profile view which was published by Johann Friedrich Probst & the heirs of Jeremias Wolff (Augsburg, ca. 1750). – Two vertical folds (as publ.), sl. waterstained in outer right part, sl. foxed/ browned, but nevertheless in good condition (not examined out of frame).
