First & only edition of the most extensive description of The Hague by the Dutch historian & lawyer Jacob de Riemer (1676-1762) illustrated with 18th-cent. engravings by i.a. J.C. Philips after G. van Giessen. – Lacks vol. 2 (publ. in 1739). Two engravings missing according to the binder’s index (“Afbeeldinge van Schevelinge, in 1570” & “St. Joris Doele”). With defects (vol. 1 partly waterstained throughout, a few engravings sl. torn, several engravings in a 20th-cent. hand-colouring). Sold as a collection of prints (not subject to return).
