Emmius, 11 double-p. engr. plans (of which 2 printed on a smaller leaf: ca. 13 x 36 cm.) & 1 double-p. engr. plate (dep. costumes) by N. van Geelkercken. Small folio, contemp. blindst. vellum with ribbed spine.

¶ Eekhoff pp. 279-280. Willems 110. Haitsma Mulier/ Van der Lem 156a. Rare second edition (but the first folio-edition) of the first extensive description of Friesland, Groningen & East Frisia (until 1564) by the Dutch historian & theologian Ubbo Emmius (1547-1625). With plans of Bolsward, Dokkum, Emden, Franeker, Groningen, Harlingen, Leeuwarden, Sloten, Sneek, Stavoren & Workum engraved by the Dutch cartographer & print-maker Nicolaes van Geelkercken (ca. 1585-1656). – Erratic pagination, but text is complete. Upper joint splitting, upper cover sl. stained, inner hinges weakening, lacks ties. A few preliminary leaves loosening, occ. (sl.) marg. waterstained, leaf E6 lacks small portion of outer blank margin, scattered annotations/ underlinings in black ink, plan of Stavoren partly handcoloured, but nevertheless in an acceptable condition.
