[Leeuwarden], “Uitgegeeven door François Halma”, 1718, consisting of 2 letterpress text-leaves (title & dedication), engr. allegorical frontispiece by J. Folkema, 3 engr. armorial plates (dep. coats-of-arms), 8 double-p. engr. historical engr. maps after Menso Alting, 30 double-p. engr. maps (of which 2 fold.) of the “Grietenijen” (by i.a. Jan & Casper Luyken) and 1 double-p. engr. general map of Friesland (“Frisiae Dominium vernaculè Friesland, [..]”, ca. 52 x 60 cm., in a fine CONTEMPORARY HAND-COLOURING). Large folio, early 20th-cent. half-percaline, uncut.

¶ Koeman III, pp. 122-123 (listing 45 maps, but all complete copies we could trace have 39 maps). Eekhoff p. 79. Tiele 978. Klaversma/ Hannema 1296. Second edition (with the maps revised & amended) of the finest 18th-cent. atlas of Friesland by the Frisian cartographer Bernardus Schotanus à Sterringa (1635-1704). The first edition of “Friesche Atlas [..]” was publ. in 1698 (with 31 engr. maps). – Binding sl. rubbed/ worn along extremities. All maps with a circular stamp on verso, both leaves & all engravings expertly re-attached into the binding, sl. foxed/ browned, 2 maps sl. soiled in outer (blank) margin, 2 maps sl. dam. in lower blank margin (repaired with paper), but altogether in good condition (printed with very wide margins).
