[No place], 1701, consisting of a double-p. engr. title by ROMEYN DE HOOGHE (dated “1701” in the plate) & 32 double-p. engr. maps (numb. or lettered “I-XVII”, “A-F” & “1-9” in the plate) by Jan Luyken & I. Stemmers after A. Steyaart, ALL IN A FINE CONTEMPORARY HAND-COLOURING. Large folio, contemp. blindst. vellum.

Rare first edition (only 5 copies in NCC) of a magnificent Dutch polder-atlas comprising 32 large-sized polder-maps of Voorne-Putten & Goeree-Overflakkee (nearly all ca. 50 x 70 cm.) & an impressive allegorical title etched by Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708), all beautifully coloured by hand at the time of publication. The surveying for the maps was done by Heyman van Dijck (between 1695-1701). ¶ With defects (lacks ties, book-block loosening, occ. sl. dam./ frayed in outer blank margins and/or torn on fold, 2 maps lack small portion of lower blank corner, several maps partly strengthened with paper on verso, title & 2 maps (sl.) dam. in the image due to ink-corrosion, occ. sl. dampstained/ moulded in outer margins), but altogether in an acceptable condition.
