[DEN HAAG] – AVEELE, J.J. (Johannes Jacobsz.) VAN DEN (ca. 1655-1727). “Generàl Gesigt Van Het Schone Perk Van Sorgvliet”.

Etched & engraved bird’s-eye view with cartouche & legend (with Dutch text) by “J. ab Avelen”. Published by N. Visscher (Amsterdam, after 1691). Ca. 38,5 x 47,5 cm. Framed (behind glass).

¶ Van der Haer p. 240. Hunt/ De Jong (“The Anglo-Dutch garden in the age of William and Mary”) pp. 165-172. Very rare first edition of a beautiful panoramic view of the gardens of the estate “Sorghvliet” in The Hague depicting i.a. the “Catshuis” (nowadays the official residence of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands) & the “Scheveningse Zee Straat” (incl. a small view of Scheveningen in the background). A second issue was published by J. Covens & C. Mortier (Amsterdam, ca. 1730). – Vertical fold in the middle (as publ.). Sl. foxed/ browned in upper part, but else in good condition (not examined out frame).
