Charles Eames (1907–1978) and Bernice Alexandra 'Ray' Kaiser Eames (1912–1988)

Designed in: 1961, United States of America.

Edited by Herman Miller, this chair got the emblematic base named 'La Fonda'.

In 1948 Eames created the fiberglass shelled DSR (Dining Side Chair) for the Museum of Modern Art contest. The shell of this chair is identical to the shell of the DSR chair.

In 1961 the base was designed by Alexander Girard who built the famous restaurant 'La Fonda del Sol' in New York. He asked his friends Charles and Ray Eames to design all the furniture. The Eames couple decided to harmonize all elements by giving all the furnitures exactly the same height.
