Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969)

1932, Germany.

A MR 534 armchair. Executed by: Thonet, Germany. Chrome-plated tubular steel frame and wooden armrests.

Provenance: Mr. R.A. Hoogland, a medical practitioner in Utrecht was befriended to G. Rietveld who advised him to furnish his medical practice and his family home with tubular steel furniture, including Bauhaus furniture.

His brother W.H. Hoogland settled in the former Dutch East Indies as a project developer. In cooperation with the Architect A. Aalbers (1897-1961) he realized two iconic buidlings in Bandung: the Hotel Savoy Homann and the DENIS building.
