A pair of bronze canons
1755, Amsterdam. A rare and very important pair of Dutch 18th century bronze one pounder Naval Cannons, cast by Pieter Seest (1716-1780), master gunfounder (1755-1780) to the V.O.C. (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie/ Dutch East India Company) In Amsterdam- dated 1755.
Inscribed with: the crest of the V.O.C., 'A' for Amsterdam, dated 'Anno 1755', and signed: Pieter Seest. With modern Carriages, wood with iron mountings (carriages in need of restoration). The shape and colouring of the carriages is based on original drawings.
Pieter Seest was Master Gunfounder and head of the Amsterdam Town Foundry, from ca. 1755 until 1780. At this foundry bronze cannons and bronze bells were made.
The VOC was his most important customer. The V.O.C. had several 'kamers' (offices) in Holland:

Late 18th century, France. The case crowned with a lyre, firegilt bronze ornaments referring to the theatre. The case flanked by two marble columns embellished with firegilt bronze ornaments. Enamelled dial face with Roman cyphers enclosed in a refined firegilt lunette and a beaded edge, mirroring the bronze decoration of the columns. Central under the case a wedgwood japerware plaque is placed.
The French mechanism with an eight-day going train with chord suspension, the pendulum with sunburst decor. Struck on a chime on full and half hours on a count wheel.
